The Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations
January 20th, 2012
The Screen Actors Guild Awards are coming up at the end of January. Check out the TV and Film nominees for the 17th annual award ceremony.
The Screen Actors Guild announced nominations for the 17th annual SAG Awards this morning.
The nominees reaffirmed many of the front-runners for possible Academy Award nominations.
In the leading female actor category, Natalie Portman earned a rightful nomination for her work in Black Swan, but she’ll be running against stiff competition from Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole, along with many other notable actresses. In the leading male actor category, Jeff Bridges was recognized for his take on the iconic character of Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, but he’ll face strong competition from young actors Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network and James Franco in 127 Hours.
On the TV side, many familiar names resurfaced among this year’s SAG nominees and several new shows also earned kudos. Among the repeat nominees for best male actor in a drama series were Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad, Jon Hamm for Mad Men, and Michael C. Hall for Dexter. Steve Buscemi also earned a nod for his work in the new show Boardwalk Empire (though he was previously nominated for a SAG Award during his run on The Sopranos). Alec Baldwin and Steve Carell led the nominations in the comic actor category for 30 Rock and The Office, respectively.
Several female actors also made repeat appearances in the drama category, such as Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer and Mariska Hargitay for Law and Order: SVU. With the notable exception of everyone’s favorite octogenarian Betty White getting a nomination for Hot in Cleveland, there were no new faces in the comedy category either, with Tina Fey getting a nod for 30 Rock and Jane Lynch getting a second nomination for Glee, among other repeat nominees.
heck below for the full list of nominees in both television and film. The SAG Awards ceremony will be simulcast live on Sunday, January 30 hollister sale , 2011 on TNT and TBS at 8:00pm EST.
